Ellwood Atfield are working with a reputable membership body in the health sector, who champion the interests of patients and medical professionals. The organisation is responsible for providing world-leading assessment, training, and career development to thousands of medical professionals across the UK, whilst setting professional standards and facilitating research.

The Opportunity

The organisation is looking for a Policy and Public Affairs Manager who will advance the interests of patients as well as the professional interests of members across the devolved nations (with a particular focus on Northern Ireland and Wales). This is a newly created role, requiring the successful post holder to develop strong ties with local government officials, health professionals and wider stakeholders, to ensure that work in the devolved nations reflects the organisation’s wider priorities.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all stakeholder activity with regulators, health professionals, patient advocacy groups, policy makers, and civil servants, with respect to medical services and national health services, in the devolved nations.
  • Proactively influence policy, legislation, and public debate around respective medical and health services in the devolved nations.
  • Working alongside colleagues across the UK to update and implement influencing strategies for the devolved nations, while ensuring activity mirrors the organisation’s strategic priorities.
  • Leading on consultation responses, position statements, written briefings and letters pertaining to devolved nations policy work.
  • Ensure Directors and other senior spokes people in the devolved nations are well briefed ahead of stakeholder meetings.
  • Monitor political developments and developments within NHS structures of interest to the membership body; identify opportunities to enhance policy influence.
  • Advise relevant organisation departments of local opportunities for promoting fellowship, membership, and affiliation.
  • Ensure that guidance and policies issued by the membership body are considered by the Northern Ireland Professional Affairs Board and the Wales Professional Affairs Board so that these standards can influence local decision making.

 

Person Specification

·      Significant experience of working within a policy and/or public affairs role within the healthcare sector.

·      A strong understanding of policymaking and political process in the devolved nations.

·      Ability to communicate complex information in a concise way to a diverse audience.

·      Experienced in producing policy reports and written responses to government professionals and senior medical professionals in the NHS.

·      Proven ability to influence and build strong professional ties with a wide network.

·      Strong project management skills and an ability to prioritise tasks accordingly.
