Flexible with a hybrid working arrangement (home and office). You will be required to travel to MCS Group office locations in Norwich and Daresbury(North West), as well as travel across the UK as necessary for business including London.

MCS Group consists of The MCS Foundation, which drives research, advocacy, and policy to accelerate renewable adoption, and the MCS Service Company, which operates the UK’s trusted Microgeneration Certification Scheme. This scheme sets industry standards, supports over 5,000 certified installers, and ensures quality for 260,000 installations annually.

The opportunity:

The role of Group Communications and Marketing Director is a new position for the MCS Group. Working across The MCS Foundation and the MCS Service Company as a “Group” function, you will establish, integrate and run a single communications and marketing department, bringing together the two current teams to deliver the communications functions for both organisations.  

The dynamic communications team at MCS Group plays a vital role in the success of both The MCS Foundation and MCS Service Company. They manage public and media relations, organise impactful industry, stakeholder, and internal events, and oversee the group’s digital presence. By developing and executing strategic communication plans, they strengthen brand presence and messaging. At the heart of MCS Group, they craft compelling content that leverages the organisation's rich data to tell engaging stories that resonate with diverse stakeholders.

Main responsibilities include:

  1. Develop and deliver an integrated communications and marketing strategy and plan for MCS Group which harnesses all the assets and skills of the Group in support of both The MCS Foundation and the MCS Service Company missions, objectives and brands.
  2. Act as champion and custodian for both MCS Group brands, maximising and protecting the synergies and distinctions between them.
  3. Provide strategic leadership and help to inspire and coordinate the communications team, by building and running a single, shared communications team serving both the MCS Foundation and MCS Service Company, embedding and inspiring a single team with common purpose.
  4. Play a key role in delivering integrated communications across The MCS Foundation and MCS Service Company goals as a member of the senior leadership team.

Requirements include:

  1. Proven experience in communications, with a track record of increasing an organisation’s profile, awareness, and impact across various channels.
  2. Extensive expertise in media relations, PR, digital communications, internal communications, events, marketing, and brand development.
  3. Strong strategic leadership skills, capable of delivering distinct brand voices and engaging diverse internal and external audiences.
  4. Hands-on, flexible, and inspirational approach to managing a small, high-achieving team in a dynamic work environment.
