The opportunity
The London Metal Exchange (LME) is the world’s leading marketplace for industrial metals and a UK Recognised Investment Exchange regulated by the FCA. They are seeking a talented Government Affairs Executive to strengthen their engagement with regulators, policy makers, and political stakeholders in the UK.
Role purpose
In this role, you will support the LME in monitoring and responding to regulatory, policy, and legislative developments mostly in the UK. The role will work closely with internal teams such as the Risk and Compliance, and external bodies including trade associations, regulators, and policy makers to provide clear insight, advocacy, and strategic guidance. You will also be responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with political stakeholders to ensure the LME’s position is well understood within the financial services landscape.
Main responsibilities
- Develop and coordinate LME’s policy positions, consultation responses, and advocacy efforts.
- Ensure internal stakeholders remain up to date on all relevant regulatory developments within the UK to be able to effect necessary change.
- Represent LME with trade associations and contribute to corporate messaging on key policy issues.
- Monitor and analyse regulatory and legislative developments, providing clear, actionable policy insights to senior management and internal teams.
- Build and maintain relationships with regulators and political stakeholders.
Key skills and experience required
- Experience in policy, government affairs, or regulatory roles within financial services is essential.
- Proven ability to analyse complex policy/regulation and translate it into clear, actionable insights.
- Highly organised, proactive, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong understanding of UK Government and Parliamentary procedures.
- Confident with stakeholder management and influencing skills, able to build trust at all levels, including Directors.
